This historic image of a curious Ashaninka boy shows the great photographic
skill and unique style of explorer Chuck Clark. Note Clark's use of focus
to identify the subject (the curious Ashaninka boy) of the composition. Note
also, the out of focus airplane in the background, showing the clash of
cultures, indigenous versus modern. Most of the indigenous people that
Clark met, had never seen a Westerner before, much less an American from the
Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Good or bad, the world of the Ashaninka tribe
would never be the same again.
