Amazon Tribe

Amazon Tribe.  Matis Indian girls from the Javari Valley of the Amazon Basin.  Note their traditional jewelry that consists of hand-made beads carved from "huicungo" seeds and dyed with annatto.  In addition, they are wearing smaller necklaces made from plastic beads.  These "hicungo" necklaces are characteristic of the Matis tribe, and presently are seldom used by other Amazonian Indian tribes in the Javari River Valley of Brazil and Peru.
