Indigenous culture of a native Amazonian people. The Matis leader
Binan Tucum demonstrating how to make fire using a drill and fireboard. When
hunting, the Matis always carry a drill and fireboard in their blowgun
quiver together with poison tipped darts. Getting a fire started in a
wet environment such as the Amazon Rainforest can be quite the feat after it
rained all night, the night before; which is exactly what happened before
this photo session. Note his close-cropped hair that is
typical of both male and female members of this South American tribe.
