Native Culture

Matis Mother and son illustrating the close mother-son bond in this native culture of the Amazon rain forest.  Children, especially males, are constant companions of their mothers during their first years.  Later, they spend more time with fathers learning about hunting and other male tribal traditions.  That said, the Matis females also partake in hunting which is somewhat unique among hunter societies.
