Explorers Club

Explorer Club flag being displayed by members of the Matis Tribe.  The Explorers Club is an international society for field scientists and explorers.  The Club has been sponsoring expeditions for over a century.  The honorary chairman of the Explorers Club at the time of this expedition was Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man to scale Mount Everest.  The Explorer Club flag (Number 99) held by the Matis men in the above photograph is a historic artifact and was also used in the 1930s during the American Expedition to Antarctica.
