Chawa Wassa Matis during the Dance of Queixada.  In addition to being decorative, the red annatto dye is said to help protect the skin from insect bites.  The Matis spend most of the time living deep in the shaded rain forest and therefore, are generally quite fair compared to other tribes that spend more time in the open or traveling on the rivers in the open sun.
