Matsés girl demonstrating typical female body painting and facial painting
with red from annatto ("achiote") and black from genipap ("huito").
Traditionally, girls and boys were given permanent tattoos upon reaching
adolescence. Typically, a male relative would be responsible for
making the tattoos on both girls and boys.
