Face painting picture of a Matses woman living in the indigenous community of
Buen Peru, located on the Gálvez River in the Peruvian Amazon Rain Forest.
The Matsés community extends well across the Yavarí River into Brazil.
Some scientists believe that at one time the Matsés lived near the Amazon
River and fled to the remote area on the Brazil-Peru border to avoid contact
with Peruvian colonists.
