Matis Father and Son in the Amazon rain forest. Note the ear ornaments that are made from snail shells. These Amazonian Indians believe these ear ornaments enhance their hearing ability. Similarly, note the absence of eyebrows. Many tribes living in the Amazon rain forest remove their eyebrows in a belief that it will enhance their vision, an important factor in hunter-gatherer societies.
