The Matsés Indians use sieves to filter cooked beverages (e.g. piabo) before
they are served. The sieves are hand woven from the shoots of a bamboo-like
plant found in the rainforest. Piabo is a mixture of corn and
plantains. Cooking is generally a female task, but men generally help with
harvesting and gathering food. Surprisingly, Matsés women participate in
hunting together with men.
