Matsés Indians women typically use sieves to filter cooked beverages (e.g. "piabo") before they are served.  The sieves are hand woven from the shoots of a bamboo-like plant found in the rainforest.  "Piabo" is a mixture of corn and plantains.  Cooking is generally a female task, but men generally help with harvesting and gathering food.  Surprisingly, Matsés women often participate in hunting together with men which is a relatively rare occurrence among cultures which rely upon hunting for subsistence.
