Amazon Indian Woman

Three generations of Native American women.  Please note that the younger woman does not yet have facial tattoos like the two older Amazon native tribal woman.  Traditionally, the Matsés got tattoos on their faces after reaching adolescence.  Tattoos were an important rite of passage for Amazonian natives, representing both their ethnic identity and passage into adulthood.
